Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a ratchet binder and a lever binder?
A ratchet binder uses a ratcheting handle to incrementally tighten and release chain tension, giving finer control over the pull. A lever load binder tightens in a single motion with a locking lever — faster to operate, with less incremental adjustment.
Can I use a cheater bar or pipe extension on a chain binder?
No. Do not use tube bars, winch bars, "cheater" bars, or other handle extensions to operate ratchet or lever binders — this can overload the binder beyond its rated capacity and cause a sudden, uncontrolled release.
What binder size do I need for my chain?
Match the binder's size range to your chain diameter. GO-TOW's 5/16"–3/8" and 3/8"–1/2" binders are sized for Grade 70 transport chain and Grade 43 high-test chain in those diameters.
