How many tie-downs does a car need?
For a car, light truck or van of 10,000 lb or less, 49 CFR 393.128 requires at least two tiedowns that restrain the vehicle at the front and rear. The combined working load limit of the tiedowns must also be at least half the weight of the cargo (49 CFR 393.106). Many haulers use one strap per wheel. What does the working load limit tag show?
The WLL tag lists the strap's working load limit, the manufacturer and the material. Webbing tiedowns used on commercial motor vehicles must conform to WSTDA T-1 under 49 CFR 393.104, and inspectors may treat a strap without a legible tag as non-compliant.
