Hotshot Delivery Tie-Down & Securement Supplies
Hotshot delivery is expedited, time-sensitive freight hauled directly from pickup to drop-off in a dedicated smaller truck, usually a pickup with a gooseneck or flatbed trailer, with no terminal stops and no consolidation. GO-TOW.COM supplies the chain, binders, ratchets, straps and edge protection that keep those loads secure and on schedule.
Hotshot work runs on short notice and tight windows. A single tiedown that fails or a strap that frays at a sharp edge can stop a delivery or draw a roadside violation. This page maps the securement gear hotshot drivers use to what GO-TOW.COM stocks, and links to the federal rules behind each choice.

Edge protection reduces abrasion and cutting. FMCSA expects tiedowns to be protected from sharp edges (49 CFR §393.104). |
| Securing tarps |
Rubber Tarp Straps w/ Crimped S Hooks |
Rubber tarp straps hold the tarp down. They are not load tiedowns. |

Federal rules hotshot drivers run into
Four sections of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations cover most hotshot securement questions. Our full breakdown is in the Hotshot compliance guide.
-
49 CFR §393.106: aggregate WLL of tiedowns must be at least 50% of the cargo weight.
-
49 CFR §393.110: minimum tiedown count by cargo length and weight.
-
49 CFR §393.128: automobiles, light trucks and vans need at least two tiedowns, restraining the front and rear against lateral, forward, rearward and vertical movement.
-
49 CFR §393.130: heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery of 10,000 lb or more need at least four tiedowns, placed as close as practicable to the front and rear.
Roadside inspection timing: under 49 CFR §392.9(b) you must re-check your load within the first 50 miles, and again when you change duty status, after 3 hours of driving, or every 150 miles, whichever comes first.

Frequently asked questions
What is hotshot delivery?
Hotshot delivery is expedited, time-sensitive freight and courier service. A dedicated smaller truck, usually a pickup pulling a gooseneck or bumper-pull flatbed, hauls the cargo directly from pickup to drop-off with no terminal stops and no consolidation with other freight.
How many tiedowns does a hotshot load need?
It depends on the cargo. For cargo that is not blocked against forward movement,
49 CFR §393.110 sets the minimum: 1 tiedown for an article 5 ft or less and 1,100 lb or less, 2 tiedowns for a heavier article up to 5 ft or any article over 5 ft up to 10 ft, and for articles over 10 ft, 2 tiedowns plus 1 more for every additional 10 ft or fraction. A 20 ft article needs at least 3. Vehicles and heavy equipment have their own rules (see the gear and rules sections above). These are minimums, and many haulers add tiedowns for margin.
How strong do my tiedowns have to be?
Under
49 CFR §393.106, the combined working load limit (WLL) of the tiedowns holding an article must be at least one-half the weight of that article. A 10,000 lb load needs at least 5,000 lb of aggregate WLL. Use the WLL marked on each strap or chain, and note that how a tiedown is attached can change the WLL you can count under
49 CFR §393.108.
Do I need a CDL for hotshot trucking?
Not by weight alone. A federal Class A CDL applies to a combination with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 lb or more that includes a towed unit rated over 10,000 lb (
49 CFR §383.5). A rig rated below 26,001 lb GCWR generally falls outside that definition. States can add their own rules, so confirm with your state before you buy a trailer.
Do I need a USDOT number?
If your truck or combination has a GVWR or GCWR of 10,001 lb or more and you haul property in interstate commerce, it is a commercial motor vehicle under
49 CFR §390.5 and FMCSA requires a USDOT number. A number of states also require one for intrastate hauling. Our
Hotshot compliance guide explains the weight thresholds side by side.
Which GO-TOW.COM products are made for hotshot loads?
Our Grade 70 transport chain and binders, 2 inch ratchets, corner protectors, hooks and tarp straps suit flatbed and hotshot work. If you also haul vehicles, our over-wheel, axle and DiamondWeave straps are built for that. Every strap we sell carries a WLL tag, and straps sold by GO-TOW.COM are compliant with 49 CFR Part 393. FMCSA does not issue approval stamps for individual straps.
How fast can I get gear?
Standard items ship free at $175+ and heavy freight (20 lb or more per unit) ships free at $500+ within the contiguous U.S. Ask us about FedEx 2-Day on standard-weight items when a load is waiting on the gear. Phone support is open 7 days a week.

Requirements depend on your vehicle, cargo, weight and state, so confirm them with FMCSA and your state agency. Always use the working load limit (WLL) marked on each strap, chain and binder, never exceed it, and inspect gear before every trip. Product suitability for your load is your responsibility.
