Collection: Wheel Nut Indicators
A loose wheel nut indicator gives drivers and inspectors a quick visual check on wheel-end fasteners. The guidance on our listings, based on TIA and TMC recommended practices, is that if a lug nut moves, the nut and stud should be inspected.
This collection carries Checkpoint loose wheel nut indicators in 33mm and 38mm sizes with red and yellow options, Checkpoint high heat 33mm indicators in orange, and Ken-Tool Hexchex multi-size indicators for 30 to 38mm nuts. Packs of 10, 72 and 100 are available, and Hexchex is also sold singly.
Standard Checkpoint indicators are designed to melt at 125°C (257°F), and the high heat version at 329°F, so they can also point to excess heat at the wheel end, such as a failing wheel bearing. Hexchex is made of engineered polymer, tightens by hand with no tools, and is listed as reusable.

Wheel Nut Indicators FAQ
How do I choose the right size?
Match the indicator size to your wheel nuts. Each product page lists the size, and Hexchex covers 30 to 38mm. If you are not sure, call 833.LIFT.TOW (833.543.8869).
What is the difference between standard and high heat indicators?
Standard Checkpoint indicators melt at 125°C (257°F). The high heat version melts at 329°F and is described for applications with high heat at the wheel end, such as waste haul, municipal transit and severe stop-and-start service.
Can I reuse a wheel nut indicator?
Hexchex indicators are listed as durable and reusable. An indicator that has melted has done its job and should be replaced.
