Frequently Asked Questions
What is aramid fiber (Kevlar®) webbing used for?
Aramid fiber webbing is chosen for strap and tie-down applications that see extreme heat, repeated abrasion, or both: barrel heater straps, MOLLE/PALS gear, oilfield rigging, and heavy-use straps that would wear through standard polyester webbing.
What is the difference between the heavy duty and standard 1" black Kevlar® webbing?
The heavy duty webbing has a 5,500 lb tensile breaking strength. The standard 1" black Kevlar® webbing has a 3,500 lb tensile breaking strength.
How does DuPont™ Kevlar® webbing hold up to heat?
DuPont™ Kevlar® does not melt. It decomposes above 800°F, though strength can diminish with prolonged exposure over 350°F. It performs across a -300°F to +300°F range and meets the NFPA 1983 fabric heat and flame resistance standard.
Is this webbing sold as finished straps or by the foot?
It is sold by the foot for strap assemblers and DIY rigging, not as a finished strap. There is no minimum, so you can order a 1 ft sample. GO-TOW.com is a strap assembler: call 833.LIFT.TOW (833.543.8869) for custom lengths, sewn ends or finished assemblies.
Is tensile breaking strength the same as a working load limit?
No. Tensile breaking strength is the force at which the webbing breaks. It is not a working load limit and should not be used as a rated tie-down load. For rated auto hauling straps, see our DOT Compliance Straps.
Where is this Kevlar® webbing made?
It is made in the USA by OTEX Specialty Narrow Fabrics®, a women-owned manufacturer.
