5/16" Grade 70 Clevis Slip Hooks with Safety Latch

The 5/16" Grade 70 clevis slip hook is the adjustable counterpart to the grab hook. A grab hook captures one fixed chain link, while the slip hook's wider throat lets the chain slide to any link position and the safety latch keeps the chain seated when it is slack. Use it at the load end of a chain assembly when the chain-to-load distance changes from load to load. Each hook is rated at 4,700 lbs working load limit (WLL) with an 18,800 lb break strength and a 4:1 design factor, and is stamped "G70".

Choose 4, 8 or 10 hooks from the pack size options above.

Grab Hook or Slip Hook: Which Goes Where

A practical chain assembly pairs both: a 5/16" grab hook at the trailer anchor end and a slip hook at the load end, so you can set the working length for each load. The latch is a retention device, not a load-bearing part. Under tension the chain is held by the hook itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WLL of a 5/16" Grade 70 slip hook?

4,700 lbs per hook, the same as a 5/16" Grade 70 grab hook. Break strength is 18,800 lbs with a 4:1 design factor.

What does the safety latch do?

It closes the throat so the chain link does not fall out while the chain is slack or during setup. Always confirm the link is seated in the hook saddle, not just held in by the latch.

Can slip hooks be used with chain binders?

Yes. Slip hooks are commonly used on the adjustable end of chain assemblies with ratchet or lever chain binders. Match binder WLL and chain size to the hook, all 5/16" Grade 70 in this case.

Are these hooks DOT and FMCSA compliant?

They are stamped "G70" and rated 4,700 lbs WLL, and meet Grade 70 requirements when used with matching 5/16" Grade 70 chain. Verify your total aggregate WLL against 49 CFR 393.106 for your load.
